CHRIS SPRING

Chris completed his physiotherapy degree, while concurrently completing his Masters in Exercise and Sports Science, from the University of Sydney in Australia. During this time, Chris also obtained his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) designation. Following his graduation, Chris stayed in Australia for six years, working in private practice (including 3 years in a hip and pelvis specialty clinic) and in semi-professional rugby.

In 2012, Chris was recruited by Athletes’ Performance (now called EXOS, the largest sports performance company in the world) to be part of the first group of foreign physiotherapists and strength coaches ever to work full time with the Chinese Olympic Committee, to help them prepare for the London Olympics. Following the London Olympics, Chris remained in China until the beginning of 2018, working in various positions with the Chinese Olympic Committee and the Shanghai provincial sports program, including being made the head physiotherapist of Team China from 2013-2015. During this time, he worked with a variety of athletes but spent most of his time with athletes from the national gymnastics, diving, weightlifting, and table tennis teams. Since returning to Canada, Chris has been helping the members and athletes at Crossfit Overdrive and their Olympic Lifting Team to prevent and recover from injuries through manual therapy, and Crossfit and Olympic Lifting screening and corrective exercise programs.

Chris has a passion to help athletes in all sports, from amateur to professional, rehab from their injuries, to help prevent further injuries, and to excel at their sport through general and sports-specific screening and assessments and prescribing corrective exercises and performance programming. Chris has a great relationship with the coaches (both strength and conditioning and technical) of the athletes that he works with and encourages their involvement in the rehab process.

Chris has a special interest in combat and contact sports. He is a level 2 Immediate Care in Rugby medic as well as a Medical Educator in the IRB (Rugby Asia division) and has worked with many professional players while in Australia. He has also worked with a variety of combat sports, including the Chinese national judo and wrestling teams, Shanghai sanda team, as well as boxing and kickboxing academy athletes. He is also a muay thai practitioner himself and still trains regularly.
